Super Mario Maker 2 Update will Allow Multiplayer with Online Friends

During the tailend of a June 11 Treehouse Live video, Nintendo of America’s assistant manager of product marketing, Samantha Robertson, noted friends will be able to play online together in the future. Robertson sat down with executive producer, Takashi Tezuka in a lengthy half-hour gameplay showcase of Super Mario Maker 2. At the end of the video, she had dropped an almost off-hand comment mentioning friends playing together.

This was in contrast to a few weeks ago where players were told the limitations of the multiplayer. Thanks to the leaderboards, Nintendo had no intention to allow players to play with friends, at least internationally. But, this announcement confirms that international play may not be out of the question.

Super Mario Maker 2 is coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch on June 25.
